About the work
Botanica explores the relationship between science and nature. Iconic images evocative of 'science' such as Bunsen burners, test tubes and beakers nestle comfortably with, or begin to transform into, organic shapes of roots, leaves and flowers. Juxtaposing the botanical with the instrumental generates curiosity in regard to the possibilities of scientific endeavour, while the fresh and vivid watercolour treatment speaks of a playful and optimistic orientation towards the future of science.
